CONTEXT: In the episode I’m currently watching (Layer 07: Society), there’s a man walking around with a shit ton of computer gear interfacing with the Wired. He has virtual reality goggles to see the digital world and a camera to have a feed of the real world in the background.
The OS that a lot of the adults use in Serial Experiments Lain looks like a mix between IRIX, NeXTSTEP, and some fantasy OS.
Went to visit mebious.co.uk (the web address shown on the gauge on one of lain’s pieces of cooling machinery) out of curiosity and got met with this
@wyatt I’ve looked inside this thing, and the caps looked a bit iffy (at least to me they looked iffy). Also, sometimes, this thing doesn’t POST (as in the thing doesn’t show the hardware test screen and the fans stay at max speed perpetually) and I have to shut it off and turn it back on to get it to POST again. I don’t know if that’s indicative of capacitor issues, though.
Is this eMachine suffering from early-stage capacitor leakage? Because it IS from the capacitor plague era, although it was made pretty late into the capacitor plague,
